Dennis Callanta

Dennis Callanta, 71, passed away on January 2, 2022, in Salt lake City, Utah. He was born on July 20, 1950 in San Jose, CA, to Leo Callanta and Mary Downs Callanta. Dennis married Kathy Rose on September 3, 1970 in Reno, Nevada. They were later sealed in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Oakland Temple. 

Dennis was best known for his proud service in the United States Army, as a special forces Green Beret. He was very passionate about music. He played in many bands and there wasn't an instrument that he couldn't pick up and play as if he had played it for years. He hand made many of his guitars. He was also very involved in Scouting both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts for many of years and he was a Grand Master in Martial Arts and recently took up target shooting and had won a few awards for his marksmanship.
Dennis is survived by his wife Kathy Callanta, his children: Aaron (Louise) Callanta, Debbie Callanta, Bryan (Vanessa) Callanta, 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, his siblings: Cecilia Callanta, Daniel (Sonny) Callanta, Carmen (Frank) Takemoto, Darrell (Elaine) Callanta, Lolita "Cookie" Callanta, David (Elizabeth) Callanta.
Dennis is preceded in death by his parents.

The service for Dennis Callanta will be held on Tuesday, at 11:00 AM at Highland Central Stake Center, 5853 West 10400 North, Highland. Burial will be held at the Utah Veterans Memorial Park.
