Paradox had a gig in Price the day that Thistle, Utah was flooded. The gig was on a Friday night and we played in Grand Junction Colorado the next night. We had to make a major detour to get home.
We arrived early for the gig in Price and decided to go see the dinosaur quarry. We hauled all of our equipment out there in a trailer and somehow the trailer broke loose from the hitch (on the old station wagon). Luckily the chains held, but it was pretty scary for a while (as I quickly added up the dollar amount of the equipment in the uninsured trailer).
Kimo Lewis was our full-time sound man. He used to talk to us (on stage) through the monitors, while we were performing (so nobody on the dance floor could hear. One night at an Alta High School Dance, we were right in the middle of a slow song and a voice came saying "Everybody Skate." We did everything we could do to keep from laughing. Later, on another slow song, he said, "I think this couple back here just made a baby during that song." Kimo certainly kept things fun.
One time we were playing for a church dance in Highland. We went in two separate cars. Half the band, the one with the equipment, went to a building, saw all the people setting up for the dance, set up the PA and the equipment and wondered what happened to the other car. We later discovered that we set up at the wrong church (that also happened to be having a dance). Quick teardown, up the street a few blocks, reset up and we barely made it before the dance started. Remember this was all pre cell phones.
