George Callis Spilsbury
September 29, 1944 - July 14, 2025
Our beloved husband, father, stepfather and grandfather, George Spilsbury, passed away peacefully in his home on July 14, 2025 with his loving wife, Lori, by his side. George and Lori married in 2006 and have spent the past 20 years building a beautiful love story and life together with their combined families, including nine children and 16 grandchildren.
George was born in Preston, Idaho on September 29, 1944, the fourth of five children born to Erwin Spilsbury and Josephine Callis Spilsbury. George, attorney and devoted family man, lived a beautiful life filled with love of music, sports and professional achievements. George treasured spending time with family, snow skiing, traveling and road trips, singing and playing guitar, reading, trivia as well as snuggling his precious little grand babies.
After completing a two year mission in Ireland for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, George went on to complete his undergraduate degree in English at Brigham Young University in 1969. He continued on to pursue his postgraduate JD degree from the University of Illinois, after which he began a lucrative career in Cleveland, Ohio with the law firm Squire, Sanders and Dempsey. During this time period, George met and married Janice Olmstead and went on to raise seven wonderful children, four daughters and three sons. After spending some time in Cleveland, the family moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where George performed legal work for the Alaskan Pipeline. Soon after this adventure, the family moved to Scottsdale, Arizona where he pursued private practice legal work and eventually joined the law firm Jennings, Strouss and Salmon where he served for nine years on the management committee.
George is survived by his wife; Lori Spilsbury, sons; Joshua Spilsbury, Brooks Spilsbury and Quinn Spilsbury, daughters; Sydney Ballinger, Meagan McNaughton, Hutton Spilsbury and Schuyler Spilsbury; stepdaughters, Sarah Corral and Jennifer Lamster, 16 grandchildren, and two sisters, Marie Fowler and Janet Bradshaw Izatt.
George will be dearly missed by his loved ones long into the future, but he will always and forever be remembered for the loving relationships he continually nurtured with each and every member of his family. He lived his life as a loving, kind, and very generous man of integrity. All family, friends and acquaintances benefitted from knowing George and his big heart.
There will be a Memorial Service for George on Friday September 12, 2025, 11:00 AM, for family and friends at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Scottsdale, Arizona. (6840 East Gold Dust Avenue)
